Successful results at the Casino Beef Week Unled Steer Competition confirm that our breeding strategies are on track. Within the milk tooth category of 350-550kg (deadweight 190-240kg), two Mayo steers placed 2nd & 3rd on the hook, with the 2nd place getter also placing 3rd on the hoof. These results were pleasing given that the steers were on feed with young bulls on a grower ration. Mayo continues to produce cattle that meet the prime beef market.
The use of Glenoch Kearney K184 throughout our herd has seen some promising animals on the ground at Mayo Livestock, none more so than this fine specimen from G12. With a double cross of Booroomooka Theo and TC Stockman 365, this bull calf has excellent stature and thickness and had a good birth weight. The top maternal qualities of the dam, being a good udder, excellent feet and thickness, have been enhanced by the attributes of the sire, Glenoch Kearney K184, and we look forward to putting this bull to work in the future.
Mayo Red Angus has recently acquired the Red yearling bull Glenoch Kearney K184 from Mr Roger Boshammer's Glenoch Angus Stud, Chinchilla. Glenoch Kearney K184 compliments and boosts the infusion of Black Angus genetics that Mayo cattle presently have. He is by Glenoch Hampton H256, who has the grandsire Papa Equator 2928, and Glenoch Kearney's overall genetic profile features a double cross of Booroomooka Theo T030 and TC Stockman 365. The calves by BROWN COMMITMENT S7206 were true to his Birth Weight figures and appear to be of a quiet temperament. Other sires used include LCOC HIGH NOON A093R, BUTCH'S MAXIM, LSF COMBINATION and DOMINATOR. We hope that this will be another step towards achieving our goals of balancing well grown cattle with high carcass quality.
